All Mario Party games in order
Mario Party is Nintendo’s board game: roll, move, collect stars and play a minigame against the others after every turn. Each entry is a new set of boards and minigames on the console of its day. Below are all eighteen games plus the Jamboree TV expansion, in release order — the home consoles first, then the handhelds — with the Nintendo platforms linked, because those are the copies we stock and test.
The short answer
Ten numbered games (1998–2015: three on N64, four on GameCube, two on Wii, one on Wii U), then Super Mario Party (2018) → Superstars (2021) → Jamboree (2024) → the Jamboree TV expansion on Switch 2 (2025), plus five handheld entries. No order is required. If you want one today: Superstars for the classic boards, Jamboree for the biggest package.
The home-console series in order
Years are the first release; Europe got the N64 games and Mario Party 6 and 7 the year after, and Island Tour and The Top 100 early the following year.

Do you have to play them in order?
No. There is no story and nothing carries over; every entry is a self-contained board game. What changes per generation is the formula: 1 to 8 are the classic set-up (everyone for themselves, buying stars), 9 and 10 put everyone in one vehicle, and from Super Mario Party onwards the classic set-up returns. Superstars is deliberately a collection of the best N64 boards and a hundred older minigames.
Which Mario Party should you buy now?
- Today, on Switch: Super Mario Party Jamboree — the biggest entry, with the most minigames and online play. Plays on Switch 2 as well, where the Jamboree TV expansion belongs to it.
- The classics without an old console: Mario Party Superstars — five N64 boards and a hundred minigames from the older games, with modern controls.
- Retro on the sofa: Mario Party 2 and 3 on the N64 — the games where the series found its shape, four controllers on one television.
- GameCube: Mario Party 4 to 7 — affordable and varied; 7 even plays with eight (two per controller).
- Handheld: Mario Party DS — four players from one cartridge via Download Play, still the best travel version.
Buying Mario Party second-hand
Superstars is the classic boards without the old console
Five N64 boards and a hundred minigames from the older games, playable with any controller and online. If what you want is the Mario Party you remember, this is the cartridge — Jamboree is the bigger, newer package.
N64 cartridges are region-locked; the first game wore out sticks
An American N64 cartridge does not fit a European console without modification, so check the region — our listings state it. The original Mario Party is also known for minigames that had you spinning the analogue stick, which wore out controllers; the cartridge itself is unaffected.
Mario Party 8 exists in two European printings
The first European batch was recalled over a word in the on-screen text and reprinted. Both discs play exactly the same; only collectors care which one they have.
Handhelds: no battery, but the 3DS ones are region-locked
The DS and 3DS entries save to the cartridge without a battery. A European 3DS only plays European 3DS cartridges; Mario Party DS has no region lock and plays four people from one cartridge via Download Play.

Super Mario Party (2018) has new boards and minigames built around Joy-Con motion controls. Superstars (2021) collects five N64 boards and a hundred older minigames, plays with any controller and works online.
How many players can play Mario Party?
Usually four. Mario Party 7 on the GameCube supports eight (two players per controller), and Jamboree has online modes for up to twenty.
Which Mario Party games are on the Nintendo 64?
Mario Party (1998), Mario Party 2 (1999) and Mario Party 3 (2000) — Europe got each of them the year after. They are the games Superstars draws its boards from.
Is Mario Party suitable for young children?
Yes — every entry carries PEGI 3 or 7. The minigames explain themselves, and the dice mean a young child can beat an experienced player.
