All LEGO Star Wars games in order
LEGO Star Wars invented the modern LEGO game in 2005: film scenes rebuilt in bricks, slapstick instead of dialogue, and drop-in co-op for the whole family. Below are the six main releases in order, with which films each one covers and the platforms linked — because those are the copies we stock and test.
The short answer
The Video Game (2005, prequels) → The Original Trilogy (2006) → The Complete Saga (2007, Episodes I–VI) → The Clone Wars (2011) → The Force Awakens (2016) → The Skywalker Saga (2022, all nine films). Start with The Skywalker Saga, or The Complete Saga for the classic formula.

Do you have to play them in order?
No. Each game is its own set of films and nothing carries over. If you want the movies in saga order, The Skywalker Saga lets you start at any episode; the older pair happens to follow the films anyway — prequels first, original trilogy second, and The Complete Saga stitches those six together.
Which one should you buy now?
- Playing today: The Skywalker Saga (Switch) — all nine films, modern gameplay.
- The classic formula: The Complete Saga (Wii) — six films, the original brick-and-stud design.
- On a handheld: The Clone Wars on DS or 3DS — a build made for the small screen.
- For the collection: The Original Trilogy (GameCube) — where Episodes IV–VI first got the LEGO treatment.
Buying LEGO Star Wars second-hand
The Complete Saga replaces the first two — mostly
It bundles The Video Game and The Original Trilogy into one Episodes I–VI package with extra characters and levels. The originals are for players who want the versions they remember; for playing the six films, the Saga disc is the efficient buy.
Skywalker Saga is a remake, not a bundle
The Skywalker Saga (2022) rebuilds all nine films with new gameplay rather than collecting the old levels. Owning The Complete Saga does not make it redundant — they play differently, and both cover the original six films.
Handheld versions are their own games
The DS and 3DS releases of these titles are separate builds with adapted levels, not ports of the console versions. Our listings always state the platform, and a DS cartridge is region-free while 3DS and Wii U are region-locked.

Do I need to play the LEGO Star Wars games in order?
No. Each game covers its own films and stands alone. Release order happens to follow the saga for the first two (prequels, then the original trilogy), but nothing carries over.
Which LEGO Star Wars game covers all the films?
The Skywalker Saga (2022) covers all nine episodes. The Complete Saga (2007) covers the first six in the classic LEGO formula.
Is The Complete Saga the same as the first two games?
It combines and expands them: Episodes I–VI in one game with more characters and levels. For playing the films, it replaces the two originals.
Which one should I start with?
The Skywalker Saga on Switch for the modern take, or The Complete Saga on Wii for the classic formula — both are two-player from the couch.
Are the DS and 3DS versions the same as the console ones?
No — they are separate builds made for the handhelds, with their own levels. Same films, smaller scale.
