All Star Wars games in order

By Lenn Hodes · founder — every cartridge tested by hand

More than a hundred Star Wars games exist, and most lists drown in them. This one keeps to what matters for a Nintendo shop: every Star Wars game that came out on a Nintendo cartridge or disc — from the NES to the Switch 2 — plus the main line on the other consoles, so Battlefront, KOTOR, the Jedi games and Outlaws are placed too. 39 games in release order, with the platforms linked and buying notes on the second-hand copies we stock and test.

The short answer

The NES and SNES years (1991–94) → Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron on the N64 (1996–2000) → the GameCube era: Rogue Leader, Jedi Outcast, Bounty Hunter, Rebel Strike, KOTOR on Xbox (2001–04) → Battlefront, Republic Commando and the first LEGO games (2004–06) → The Force Unleashed and the Clone Wars games on Wii and DS (2008–11) → Battlefront (2015), Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), Squadrons, Jedi: Survivor and Outlaws (2024). Nothing needs playing in order.

Every Star Wars game in order

Years are the first release. Nintendo versions are linked to the platform; where a Wii or DS version was a different game from the PlayStation one, the note says so.

Which Star Wars game should you buy now?

  • The classic that holds up: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader on the GameCube — never re-released, still the best-looking Star Wars of its decade.
  • The story: Knights of the Old Republic on a Switch cartridge, or Jedi: Fallen Order on PS4.
  • With the family: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on Switch — all nine films, region-free.
  • On a handheld: Episode I: Racer on Switch, or Lethal Alliance and the Clone Wars games on the DS.

Buying Star Wars games second-hand

The N64 and GameCube flight games are the ones to collect

Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo, Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike were never re-released anywhere, so the cartridge or disc is the only way to play them. Rogue Squadron uses the N64 Expansion Pak for its high-resolution mode; the two GameCube discs run on the first Wii models with GameCube ports. Rebel Strike also hides the 1983 arcade game as a bonus.

The Wii and DS versions are usually different games

The Force Unleashed, its sequel, Republic Heroes and the Clone Wars games came out on Wii and DS as separate builds — different levels, motion or stylus controls, and their own box art. A used Wii disc of The Force Unleashed is not the PS3 game; the Switch release of 2022 is the PS3 game. Every listing of ours names the exact version.

The Switch got the Xbox-era classics back

Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I: Racer, KOTOR, KOTOR II, Republic Commando, The Force Unleashed, Bounty Hunter and the Battlefront Classic Collection all appeared on Switch between 2019 and 2024 as complete games on region-free cartridges — the cheapest way to play a whole era on one console.

LEGO Star Wars has its own list

Six LEGO Star Wars games exist across every Nintendo console since the GameCube, and they pass through our hands more often than any other Star Wars line. They are in this list where they land, but the version-by-version guide is on the LEGO Star Wars page linked below.

Questions we get asked

Do I need to play the Star Wars games in order?

No. Almost every Star Wars game stands alone. The only real pairs are Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel, The Force Unleashed and its sequel, and Jedi: Fallen Order followed by Jedi: Survivor — play those two by two, in release order.

How many Star Wars games are there?

Well over a hundred since 1982, counting every platform. This page lists thirty-nine: every Star Wars game released on a Nintendo cartridge or disc, plus the main console line — Battlefront, KOTOR, The Force Unleashed, the Jedi games, Squadrons and Outlaws — so the order of the ones worth buying is on one page.

What is the best Star Wars game to start with?

Jedi: Fallen Order for a modern single-player story; LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga for the films with the family; Rogue Leader on the GameCube if you want the classic that still looks the part. KOTOR on Switch is the RPG people call the best Star Wars story in games.

Which Star Wars games are on the Nintendo Switch?

Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I: Racer, Knights of the Old Republic I and II, Republic Commando, The Force Unleashed, Bounty Hunter, the Battlefront Classic Collection and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — and on Switch 2, Star Wars Outlaws.

Which Star Wars games are on the GameCube?

Rogue Leader, Rebel Strike, Jedi Outcast, Bounty Hunter, The Clone Wars, LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II. All are PAL discs in Europe and play on a European GameCube or an early Wii with the GameCube ports.
