All Harry Potter games in order
By Lenn Hodes · founder — every cartridge tested by hand
Eight film games, two LEGO games, three for phones, and then Hogwarts Legacy — that is the easy part. The hard part is that the early film games came out as three or four different games under one name: a role-playing game on the Game Boy Color, an isometric one on the GBA, a 3D one on PlayStation. Below are all 18 Harry Potter games in release order, with the platforms linked and, because we open and test every cartridge we sell, the buying notes that tell those versions apart.
The short answer
Philosopher’s Stone (2001) → Chamber of Secrets → Prisoner of Azkaban → Goblet of Fire → Order of the Phoenix → Half-Blood Prince → Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 (2010–11), with Quidditch World Cup (2003) alongside; LEGO Harry Potter Years 1–4 and 5–7 (2010–11); then Hogwarts Legacy (2023) and Quidditch Champions (2024). Start with Hogwarts Legacy, or with the LEGO Collection for the films.

Every Harry Potter game in order

- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 · 2011 · Wii, DS, 3DS, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, Vita, PC & Mac — the second half of the films; the 3DS version is a full cartridge
- LEGO Harry Potter Collection · 2016 · PS4 & Xbox One; Switch 2018 — both LEGO games with their DLC on one disc or cartridge
- Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery · 2018 · Mobile — Jam City’s story game set before the books; free-to-play
- Harry Potter: Wizards Unite · 2019 · Mobile — Niantic’s Pokémon GO-style game; closed in January 2022
- Harry Potter: Magic Awakened · 2021 · Mobile (worldwide 2023) — a card-battle game by NetEase
- Hogwarts Legacy · 2023 · PS5, Xbox Series & PC; PS4 & Xbox One later in 2023; Switch November 2023; Switch 2 2025 — the open-world Hogwarts of the 1890s — the biggest Harry Potter game ever made
- Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions · 2024 · PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series & PC; Switch November 2024 — the Quidditch game twenty-one years after World Cup
Which Harry Potter game should you buy now?
- The modern one: Hogwarts Legacy — on PS5 for the best version, on a Switch or Switch 2 cartridge to carry it.
- The films, with children: LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch — both games and the DLC, PEGI 7.
- The EA era at its best: Prisoner of Azkaban on the GameCube.
- The collector’s oddity: Philosopher’s Stone on the Game Boy Color — the RPG most people never knew existed.
Buying Harry Potter games second-hand
The Game Boy Color games are RPGs — and different games
Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets on the Game Boy Color are turn-based role-playing games by Griptonite, with card collecting and random battles, and they are nothing like the PlayStation or PC games of the same name. The Game Boy Advance versions are isometric adventures and different again. A listing that says "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone" needs the platform read — ours always name it.
Two Philosopher’s Stones on a console
The 2001 PlayStation game and the 2003 PS2, Xbox and GameCube version are separate games: the 2003 one was rebuilt on the Chamber of Secrets engine with the film’s look. The GameCube disc is the 2003 game, and it plays on the first Wii models with GameCube ports.
Wii and DS versions were built for the console
Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince on Wii cast spells with the remote; the DS versions are their own smaller games. The Deathly Hallows games are shooters on every platform, including the DS — if you want the school, castle and lessons, stop at Half-Blood Prince or take the LEGO games.
Hogwarts Legacy on Switch is the whole game, scaled down
The Switch cartridge carries the complete game at lower resolution and detail, with loading screens between areas that the other versions stream. The Switch 2 version is the better Nintendo one. Both are region-free; the game is PEGI 12, LEGO Harry Potter is PEGI 7.

Browse tested gamesQuestions we get asked
Do I need to play the Harry Potter games in order?
Only if you follow the films: the eight EA games go book by book from Philosopher’s Stone to Deathly Hallows – Part 2, and the two LEGO games cover years 1–4 and 5–7. Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch Champions and the mobile games stand alone and can be played first.
How many Harry Potter games are there?
Eighteen on this page: the eight film games plus the 2003 console remake and Quidditch World Cup, the two LEGO games and their Collection, three mobile games, Hogwarts Legacy and Quidditch Champions. Counting the handheld versions that were different games — the Game Boy Color RPGs, the GBA and DS versions — separately, it is closer to thirty.
Which Harry Potter games are on Nintendo consoles?
Every film game up to Deathly Hallows – Part 2 on at least one Nintendo system — Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, DS or Wii — plus Quidditch World Cup on GameCube and GBA, LEGO Harry Potter on Wii, DS, 3DS and Switch, and Hogwarts Legacy and Quidditch Champions on Switch.
Is Hogwarts Legacy the same game on Switch?
The same story and content, at lower resolution and with extra loading screens; the Switch 2 version runs closer to the PS5 one. It is a cartridge, region-free, and it plays on a Switch Lite as well.
Which Harry Potter game should I start with?
Hogwarts Legacy for the modern one. Prisoner of Azkaban on the GameCube is the EA-era favourite, and the LEGO Harry Potter Collection on Switch is the best way to play all eight films with children.
