Series guide
All Kirby games in order
Kirby started on the Game Boy in 1992 and has had more than twenty platform adventures since. Below is the mainline series in release order, grouped by five eras, with the European box titles — because half of the classics are sold under a different name here than in the American videos you may know them from.
The short answer
Origins: Dream Land (1992) → Adventure → Dream Land 2 → Fun Pak (1997). 2000s: Kirby 64 → Nightmare in Dream Land → Air Ride → Amazing Mirror. DS/Wii: Power Paintbrush → Mouse Attack → Super Star Ultra → Epic Yarn → Mass Attack → Adventure Wii (2011). 3DS/Wii U: Triple Deluxe → Rainbow Paintbrush → Planet Robobot. Switch: Star Allies → Forgotten Land (2022) → Return to Dream Land Deluxe → Air Riders (2025). No order is required — every game stands on its own.
The origins (1992–1997)
Dream Land on the Game Boy had no copy abilities yet; Kirby’s Adventure on the NES introduced them a year later and the series never looked back. Fun Pak on the SNES is the game Americans know as Kirby Super Star — same cartridge, different box.
N64, GBA and GameCube (2001–2004)
Kirby 64 combines abilities, Nightmare in Dream Land is the GBA remake of Adventure, and Air Ride is the racing detour that became a cult favourite. Loose GBA cartridges from this era are the cheapest way into classic Kirby.

The DS and Wii years (2005–2011)
The most productive stretch of the series and the one most often on our shelves. Super Star Ultra is the expanded DS remake of Fun Pak; Adventure Wii is the game sold as Return to Dream Land elsewhere.

- Kirby Mass Attack · 2011 · Nintendo DS
- Kirby's Adventure Wii (Return to Dream Land in the US) · 2011 · Wii
3DS and Wii U (2014–2016)
Triple Deluxe uses the 3DS depth effect for its level design; Planet Robobot puts Kirby in a mech and is, for many fans, the best handheld Kirby ever made.

- Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (Rainbow Curse in the US) · 2015 · Wii U

The Switch era (2018–today)
Star Allies is four-player couch Kirby, Forgotten Land is the jump to full 3D and landed first time, and Return to Dream Land Deluxe remakes the Wii game. Air Riders is the long-awaited Air Ride sequel on Switch 2.

American title, European title
If you know a game from an American video or price guide, this is the translation table. The right-hand column is what is printed on a European box.

Buying Kirby second-hand
Super Star Ultra is the one collectors chase
Eight adventures on one DS cartridge and the remake that gets everything right — it has become a sought-after title, as has Kirby Mass Attack. Boxed DS copies with the manual are the collector target in this series.
The Game Boy and GBA games are the cheapest way in
Dream Land, Dream Land 2 and the two GBA games are compact, inexpensive and region-free, so they play on any Game Boy or GBA in the world. A loose cartridge plays exactly like a boxed one; we list both and say plainly which you are looking at.
Check the box title before you compare prices
A European listing says Fun Pak, Power Paintbrush or Adventure Wii; the same games are Super Star, Canvas Curse and Return to Dream Land in American videos and price guides. Every listing of ours names the exact European edition.
Kirby is the safest gift in the Nintendo catalogue
Forgiving, colourful and never on a timer — HAL designs these so a six-year-old and a veteran both have fun. Forgotten Land and Star Allies are the family picks; the DS games are the ones to hand a child on a long journey.

Browse tested Kirby gamesQuestions we get asked
Do I need to play the Kirby games in order?
No. Almost every Kirby game tells its own self-contained story and the series is deliberately accessible, so you can start with any entry. The list above is release order, useful for seeing how the series grew rather than a required path.
What was the first Kirby game?
Kirby’s Dream Land on the Game Boy, in 1992. Kirby could not copy abilities yet — that arrived with Kirby’s Adventure on the NES in 1993, and it has defined the series ever since.
Why is Kirby Super Star called Fun Pak in Europe?
Nintendo regularly gave games a different title in Europe in the 1990s and 2000s. Kirby’s Fun Pak (SNES) is exactly the same game as Kirby Super Star; the same goes for Power Paintbrush (Canvas Curse), Mouse Attack (Squeak Squad), Adventure Wii (Return to Dream Land) and Rainbow Paintbrush (Rainbow Curse).
Was Kirby’s Dream Land 3 released in Europe?
Not at the time — the SNES game came out in Japan and North America only, in 1997. Europe got it years later as a digital Virtual Console release, so an original European cartridge does not exist.
Which Kirby game should I start with?
Right now: Kirby and the Forgotten Land on Switch, also for young players. For the classic 2D formula, Kirby Super Star Ultra on DS is the best summary of the whole series. Planet Robobot on 3DS is the underrated pick.
Is Kirby suitable for young children?
Yes — it is one of the most child-friendly series Nintendo has: forgiving, colourful and without time pressure. Forgotten Land and Star Allies are excellent family games, and the handheld entries are ideal for a long car journey.

Years given are the European release; Japan and North America were sometimes a year earlier. Deze gids in het Nederlands.
