Six numbered games in nearly forty years — and a list that runs to twenty-five once the revisions count, because Street Fighter II alone was sold five times under five names, and Nintendo got most of them under a sixth. Below is every release in order, from the 1987 cabinet to Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2, with the SNES, Game Boy Advance, 3DS and Switch versions marked and buying notes on the cartridges we stock and test.
The short answer
Street Fighter (1987) → II and its four revisions (1991–94) → the Alpha prequels (1995–98) → III (1997–99) → IV and its three revisions (2008–14) → V (2016–20) → 6 (2023). Nothing needs playing in order. Start with 6, or with the 30th Anniversary Collection on Switch for the classics.

- Portable II: Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival on the Game Boy Advance — Super Turbo with new artwork, and it fits a DS Lite.

Buying Street Fighter second-hand
Street Fighter II is one game in five versions — and three SNES cartridges
World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II Turbo on SNES), Super and Super Turbo are revisions of the same game, each adding fighters or speed. On the SNES you will find three of them; Super Street Fighter II is the fullest. The Game Boy Advance cartridge, Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, is the arcade Super Turbo with new artwork — the best II you can carry.
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition is the full game
Not a cut-down handheld version: all 35 fighters of Super Street Fighter IV on a 3DS cartridge, with the touch screen mapped to special moves and the 3D effect on the camera. It is region-locked — a European cartridge for a European 3DS or 2DS — and it plays on every model in the family.
The Switch versions are region-free
Ultra Street Fighter II, the 30th Anniversary Collection and the Capcom Fighting Collections are Switch cartridges that play on any Switch, Switch Lite or Switch 2. Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 is a Switch 2-only cartridge. All of them are complete on the cartridge; the collections need no download.
Alpha 3 Upper on GBA is a real port, with a catch
The whole arcade Alpha 3 on a Game Boy Advance cartridge, including the three -isms, was a small miracle in 2002 — but the GBA has four face buttons, so the six-button layout is mapped across the shoulders. Region-free, and it slots into a DS or DS Lite as well.

Do I need to play the Street Fighter games in order?
No. Each game stands alone; the story is thin and the games are about the fighting. If you want one line to follow, the numbered games — II, III, IV, V, 6 — show how the series changed, and the Alpha games sit before II in the story.
How many Street Fighter games are there?
Six numbered games — Street Fighter, II, III, IV, V and 6 — and about twenty-five releases once the major revisions, the Alpha and EX lines, the crossovers and the collections are counted, which is what this page lists. Counting every port and regional edition separately, the number runs into the hundreds.
What is the difference between Street Fighter II, Turbo, Super and Super Turbo?
They are versions of the same game. Turbo (Hyper Fighting) adds speed and new specials, Super adds four fighters, Super Turbo adds Akuma and Super Combos. On Nintendo: Street Fighter II, Turbo and Super on the SNES, Super Turbo on the GBA as Turbo Revival, and Super Turbo again on Switch as Ultra Street Fighter II.
Which Street Fighter games are on Nintendo consoles?
Street Fighter II, II Turbo, Super II and Alpha 2 on the SNES; Super II Turbo Revival and Alpha 3 Upper on the Game Boy Advance; Super IV 3D Edition on the 3DS; Ultra II, the 30th Anniversary Collection and the Capcom Fighting Collections on Switch; and Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2.
Which Street Fighter should I start with?
Street Fighter 6 if you want the current game and its tutorials — it teaches the genre better than any earlier entry. For the classics, the 30th Anniversary Collection on Switch has the original arcade games; on a handheld, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition or Turbo Revival.
