Series guide
All LEGO Marvel games in order
LEGO Marvel is a short series with a confusing middle: two numbered Super Heroes games with original stories, and a film tie-in between them that looks like a sequel but is not. Below are all three games in release order, with what each covers and the platforms linked — because those are the copies we stock and test.
The short answer
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (2013) → LEGO Marvel’s Avengers (2016, the film tie-in) → LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (2017). No order required — start with the 2013 original, which since 2021 also plays on Switch.
Every LEGO Marvel game in order
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes · 2013 · Wii U & more, later Switch — the open New York original — the whole Marvel roster in one city
- LEGO Marvel’s Avengers · 2016 · Wii U, 3DS & more — the film tie-in: the two Avengers movies and more
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 · 2017 · Nintendo Switch & more — its own time-twisting story built around Kang
Do you have to play them in order?
No. Each game stands alone. The pattern to know is what kind of story you are getting: the numbered games invent their own plots with villains teaming up across the whole Marvel universe, while Avengers walks through the films scene by scene.
Which one should you buy now?
- The one people mean: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes — open-world New York, full roster, on Switch since 2021.
- The newest: Super Heroes 2 — Kang’s time-mashed city, native on Switch.
- For film fans: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers — the movies, brick by brick.
- Portable: Universe in Peril on 3DS — the handheld build of the first game.

Avengers is the odd one out
It retells the films, while the two Super Heroes games tell original stories with the wider Marvel cast. If someone means "the LEGO Marvel game", they usually mean Super Heroes — the numbering skips Avengers entirely.
Universe in Peril is the handheld build of the first game
The DS, 3DS and Vita box called LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril contains its own adapted version of the 2013 game, not a port. Same story beats, smaller scale — our 3DS listing says exactly that.
The original came to Switch later
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes got a Switch release in 2021, so both numbered games now fit one console. Switch cartridges are region-free; the 3DS and Wii U releases are region-locked, stated per listing.
Built for two players
Drop-in local co-op on one screen is the LEGO standard, and both Super Heroes games carry it. Every copy we sell is tested through a level in co-op before it is listed.

Do I need to play the LEGO Marvel games in order?
No. Each tells its own story. The numbered pair share a tone and some returning jokes, but nothing carries over.
Is LEGO Marvel’s Avengers part of the Super Heroes series?
Not really — it is the film tie-in between the two numbered games. Super Heroes (2013) and Super Heroes 2 (2017) are the original-story pair.
Which LEGO Marvel game should I start with?
The 2013 original — open-world New York with the full roster, and since 2021 it plays on Switch too. Super Heroes 2 is the pick if you want the newest one.
Is there a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 3?
No — no third numbered entry has appeared; Super Heroes 2 (2017) is the newest LEGO Marvel game.
What is Universe in Peril?
The handheld version of the first game, built separately for DS, 3DS and Vita. Same heroes and villains, adapted levels.
