All Inazuma Eleven games in order
Inazuma Eleven is Level-5’s football RPG: matches play out as turn-based battles with superpowered special moves, wrapped in a story about a school team. The order confuses almost everyone — each game ships in two or three versions, Europe ran years behind Japan, and one entry never left Japan at all. Below are all six mainline games in order, with every version named and the platforms linked — because those are the cartridges we stock and test.
The short answer
Inazuma Eleven (DS, 2008) → 2: Firestorm / Blizzard (DS, 2009) → 3 (2010; on 3DS in Europe) → GO: Light / Shadow (3DS, 2011) → GO Chrono Stones (3DS, 2012) → GO Galaxy (2013, Japan only). Versions are pairs — you need one per game. Start with the first game, or with GO if you want the 3DS era straight away.

Do you have to play them in order?
The first three games tell one continuous story about the same team, so playing 1 → 2 → 3 pays off — sequels openly reference what came before. The GO trilogy starts fresh ten years later with a new lead character, which makes GO the second natural entry point. Within a numbered game, the versions are interchangeable: same story, different recruitable players.
Which Inazuma Eleven should you buy now?
- Starting from the beginning: the original on DS — one version, no choices to agonise over, and it plays on any DS or 3DS.
- The full classic story: 1 and 2 on DS, then 3 on 3DS — ten European cartridges cover everything through Chrono Stones.
- Straight to the 3DS era: GO: Light or Shadow — a clean restart with the same match system.
Buying Inazuma Eleven second-hand
The versions are pairs, Pokémon-style
Firestorm and Blizzard are the same game with different recruitable players and a few exclusive scenes — the same goes for every later pair. You need one version per game to follow the story, not both; pick whichever is in stock unless you are after a specific version-exclusive player.
European Inazuma Eleven 3 is a 3DS cartridge
Japan got the third game on DS in 2010, but by the time Europe caught up in 2013 the DS was done, so all three European versions — Lightning Bolt, Bomb Blast and Team Ogre Attacks! — shipped on 3DS. A 3DS cartridge is region-locked: a European console needs the European release.
The DS entries are region-free, the 3DS entries are not
The first two games are DS cartridges and play on any DS or 3DS worldwide. Everything from part 3 onwards is 3DS in Europe and locked to PAL consoles — our listings state the region on every copy.
A European full set ends at Chrono Stones
GO Galaxy never left Japan, so the complete European run is ten cartridges: one for the original, two for part 2, three for part 3, two for GO and two for Chrono Stones. Saves live on the cartridge itself, with no save battery to worry about.

Do I need to play the Inazuma Eleven games in order?
For the first three, ideally yes: they tell one continuous story about the same team, so 1 → 2 → 3 is the natural route. The GO games jump ten years ahead with a new lead and work as their own entry point.
What is the difference between Firestorm and Blizzard, or Light and Shadow?
They are paired versions of the same game, like Pokémon: the story is identical, but some recruitable players and scenes differ. One version per game is enough.
Why is Inazuma Eleven 3 on 3DS in Europe when 1 and 2 are DS games?
Europe received the series years after Japan. By its 2013–14 European release the DS era was over, so all three versions of the third game came out on 3DS here.
Where is Inazuma Eleven GO Galaxy?
It was never released outside Japan. The last entry Europe received is GO Chrono Stones (2015), which is why a European collection ends there.
Is the series still going?
Yes — after years of delays, the revival Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road brought the series back in 2025 on modern platforms. The DS and 3DS RPGs on this page are the classic line it builds on.
