Series guide
All LEGO Harry Potter games in order
LEGO Harry Potter is the quiet one of the LEGO series: two games that walk through all eight films as school years, built around learning spells rather than blasting through scenes. The confusion is always the same — which game covers which films, and whether the Collection contains both. Below is the answer in release order, with the platforms linked — because those are the copies we stock and test.
The short answer
Years 1–4 (2010) → Years 5–7 (2011) → the Collection (2016, both games remastered with DLC, on PS4 and Switch). Play them in that order — it is one continuous story.
Every LEGO Harry Potter game in order
- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 · 2010 · Wii & more — the first four school years, from the letter to the Triwizard run-up
- LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 · 2011 · Nintendo 3DS & more — the story completed, darker films included
- LEGO Harry Potter Collection · 2016 · PS4, later Switch — both games remastered in one package, DLC included
Do you have to play them in order?
Here, yes — the two games split one story down the middle. Years 1–4 ends where the films turn dark; Years 5–7 finishes it. Nothing carries over mechanically, so starting at 5–7 works, but the school-year structure is the charm and it reads best from the beginning.
Which one should you buy now?
- Everything at once: the Collection (PS4 or Switch) — both games, remastered, DLC included.
- On original hardware: Years 1–4 on Wii — motion-pointer spell casting, the version many grew up with.
- Portable: Years 5–7 on 3DS — its own handheld build of the darker half.
Buying LEGO Harry Potter second-hand
The Collection replaces the two originals
It bundles Years 1–4 and Years 5–7 with their DLC in one remastered package, on PS4 (2016) and later Switch. Buy the originals for the console you own or the box you remember; buy the Collection to simply play everything.
Handheld versions are their own games
The DS and 3DS releases are separate builds with adapted levels, not ports of the console versions. Same films, smaller scale — our listings always state the platform.
Spells are the whole gimmick
Unlike the film-to-film action of other LEGO series, these are built around learning spells in lessons and using them to open up the castle. That makes them the slowest, most explore-heavy LEGO games — good to know if you expect Star Wars pacing.
Check the region on disc consoles
The Wii discs are PAL region-locked and the 3DS cartridge is too; Switch cartridges are region-free. Every listing states the region and exactly what you get, loose or boxed.
Every copy tested before it is listed
Booting, a lesson and a level, saving, label and disc condition — checked on real hardware. We have been doing this since 2019, with 1400+ verified reviews at 5.0★, and we ship tracked to all 27 EU countries. Originals only; if something ever turns out not to be genuine, you get your money back.
Browse tested LEGO gamesQuestions we get asked
Do I need to play the LEGO Harry Potter games in order?
Ideally yes — unlike most LEGO games they follow one continuous story: Years 1–4 covers the first four films, Years 5–7 the rest. The Collection contains both, in order.
Does the Collection contain both games?
Yes — Years 1–4 and Years 5–7, remastered, with the DLC packs included. It exists on PS4 and Switch.
Which version should I buy?
The Collection if you have a PS4 or Switch. On original hardware: Years 1–4 on Wii or Years 5–7 on 3DS — both are complete games on their own.
Can two people play together?
Yes — drop-in local co-op on one screen, like every LEGO game. The handheld versions are single-player focused.
Are there other LEGO Harry Potter games?
No — two games and their remastered Collection cover the whole series. Wizarding-world fans sometimes also look at LEGO Dimensions, which had a Fantastic Beasts pack.
