Pro Skater 2 exists three times under one name — on the PlayStation and N64, on the Game Boy Color as a 2D game, and on the GBA as a third — and that is the pattern of the whole series. Below are all 18 Tony Hawk’s games in release order, the N64, Game Boy, GameCube, DS, Wii and Switch versions marked, and buying notes on the cartridges we stock and test.

Which Tony Hawk’s should you buy now?
- To play: Pro Skater 1 + 2 on Switch — the remake of the two best games, region-free.
- The next two: Pro Skater 3 + 4 on Switch or Switch 2.
- For the shelf: Pro Skater 2 on the N64 — the full game on a cartridge, the way a Nintendo collection wants it.
- The oddity: Pro Skater 2 on the Game Boy Color — a 2D game with the same name, region-free and cheap.
Buying Tony Hawk’s second-hand
The Game Boy versions are different games
Pro Skater 1, 2 and 3 on the Game Boy Color are 2D isometric games with the same names, and the GBA versions of 2, 3, 4, Underground 1 and 2 and American Sk8land are isometric 3D-look games built for the handheld. They are cheap, region-free and play on any Game Boy Color, Advance, SP or (GBA only) DS Lite — just know what you are buying. The N64, GameCube and Wii discs are the console games.
Pro Skater 2 on the N64 is the full game
The 2001 N64 cartridge carries the whole PlayStation game with lower-quality music and no video, and it is the version that fits a Nintendo shelf. Pro Skater 3 on N64 is rarer: one of the last two games made for the console in North America, and it never came to Europe on the N64.
Ride and Shred need the board
Both were sold as a bundle with a skateboard controller and cannot be played with a Wii Remote. A loose disc is only useful if you already own the board. Every listing of ours says whether the board is included.
The remakes are the way to play the classics now
Pro Skater 1 + 2 (2020) and 3 + 4 (2025) are complete remakes on Switch and Switch 2 cartridges, region-free. They replace the originals for playing; the N64 and GameCube discs are for the shelf and the nostalgia.

Do I need to play the Tony Hawk’s games in order?
No. Only Underground and Underground 2 have a story, and even that is light. Pro Skater 1 to 4 build on each other in moves — the manual arrives in 2, the revert in 3 — which is why the remakes pair them.
How many Tony Hawk’s games are there?

Pro Skater 3 + 4 arrived in 2025 on every current console including Switch and Switch 2. Nothing beyond it has been announced.
