About the Nintendo 2DS
The Nintendo 2DS (2013) plays the complete 3DS and DS library; the only thing it does not do is show the 3D effect. What you get in return is a console in one flat piece: no hinge, so no hinge to break, which is why it is the model people buy for children. Special editions such as the Pokémon Sun & Moon console are the same hardware in a different shell. Every console here is tested on both screens, the touch screen, all buttons, the card reader and charging; the listing says which charger comes with it. Sent from the Netherlands, tracked, with no customs charges anywhere in the EU.

Built for children — and for anyone who just wants the games
Nintendo made the 2DS for one reason: a 3DS without the hinge and without the 3D, at the lowest price in the family. The hinge is the part of a 3DS that breaks, and Nintendo itself advised against the 3D effect for children under seven. What is left is a single wedge of plastic that plays the complete 3DS and DS library, flat.
How the 2DS is put together
Inside it is an original 3DS; the body is where it differs.
- Both screens in one housing, the same sizes as the original 3DS.
- A sleep switch on the side replaces closing the lid.
- One speaker instead of two; headphones give stereo.
- The same controls as a 3DS: Circle Pad, D-pad, four face buttons, L and R — no C-stick, no ZL/ZR.
- A standard SD card slot, and the charger was included in the box.
Colours and editions
The 2DS launched in black and blue and in white and red, with pink and white and other combinations following. The transparent editions from 2015 — Transparent Red and Transparent Blue, sold with Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire — and the Pokémon Sun and Moon bundles are the ones collectors ask for. An edition is the same hardware in a different shell; which one a console is, is in its listing, with photos.
What to check on a used 2DS
No hinge, so that problem is gone. What remains: the top screen lies open, so scratches are the first thing to look at; then the touch screen, the Circle Pad (rubber coming loose), the shoulder buttons and the battery. We test all of these points and describe the condition honestly in the listing.
Region, eShop and games
A European 2DS plays European (PAL) 3DS games; DS games are region-free. The eShop closed in 2023, so games come on cartridge — and for a child the classic start is Pokémon or Mario on 3DS, both linked in the Keep browsing row below.
2DS, New 2DS XL or 3DS?
All three play the same cartridges. Shape, 3D and the C-stick are the differences.
Nintendo 2DS · 2013
Flat slate · no 3D · robust
A single flat wedge with no hinge, which is why it is the model people buy for children. Plays every 3DS and DS game — just in 2D.
New Nintendo 2DS XL · 2017
Clamshell · bigger screens · C-stick
The folding, faster model with larger screens and the C-stick, still without 3D. Its own page.
Nintendo 3DS · 2011
Clamshell · with 3D
The compact original with the glasses-free 3D screen. On the 3DS-family page.
- No hinge, nothing to crack
- The 2DS is a single wedge. What we test is the screens, the touch layer, the buttons, the card reader and the charging.
- Plays every 3DS and DS game
- The complete library of both systems — just in 2D.
- Tracked EU shipping, 30-day returns
- Sent from the Netherlands — no customs charges anywhere in the EU.
Does the Nintendo 2DS play 3DS games?
Yes — the complete 3DS and DS library. The only thing it does not do is show the 3D effect, which most players switch off on a 3DS anyway.
What is the difference with the New 2DS XL?
The New 2DS XL folds shut, has larger screens, a C-stick, ZL/ZR buttons and a faster processor. The regular 2DS is one flat piece without those extras — cheaper, and with no hinge to break.
Is a Nintendo 2DS region-locked?
Yes. A European (PAL) 2DS plays European 3DS games; DS games are region-free. We sell European consoles and European games, so they simply work together.
What does shipping to my country cost?
We ship tracked to all 27 EU countries. A console travels as a parcel: €21,95 to Germany, France, Italy and Spain, €23,95 to Denmark and Austria, €28,95 to Sweden. The exact rate for your country appears at checkout before you pay — and there are no customs charges anywhere inside the EU.
Shipped from the Netherlands
- Your order leaves our own stock in Enter, the Netherlands, and travels to you with PostNL — always tracked, so you know exactly where your parcel is.
- There are no customs borders inside the EU: no customs, no import duties, no extra VAT. The amount you see at checkout is the final amount.
We ship exclusively from the Netherlands. Your parcel therefore crosses a border: it takes longer than a domestic delivery, and shipping costs more than it would at a seller in your own country.
I hope Gameshop Enter gives you back a piece of how it used to be.
