Pokémon turns thirty this year, and the announcements show it: remakes on the eShop, Mega Evolution returning, the GameCube line brought back and a tenth generation on the way. Below is what actually happened in each case — and which older game you can still buy for it today.

What was announced this year
Pokémon turns thirty
Red and Green launched in Japan on 27 February 1996. The Pokémon Company is marking it right through 2026, starting with a spot during Super Bowl LX.
The generation it all started with still plays on the Game Boy itself. Blue, Yellow and Gold are on our shelf, alongside a Game Boy Color in its Pikachu edition.
FireRed and LeafGreen are on the eShop now
Both remakes arrived digitally on Switch on Pokémon Day, more than twenty years after the 2004 Game Boy Advance release. They connect to Pokémon HOME.
A cartridge is what a download is not: it is yours, it has a box and it holds its value. We stock them loose as well as complete in box, each with a passed save test.
Pokopia in March, Champions in April
Pokémon Pokopia launched on 5 March for up to four players. Pokémon Champions followed in April on Switch; players who downloaded early found a Dragonite in their in-game mailbox.
Champions draws its Pokémon from HOME, and HOME fills up from the games you already own. Sword, Shield, Scarlet, Violet and Legends: Arceus are in stock.
Pokémon XD is coming to Nintendo Classics
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness joined the GameCube line-up of Nintendo Classics in March — on Switch 2, and only with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
On a real GameCube you need no subscription at all. Colosseum and Pokémon Box: Ruby & Sapphire sit on our GameCube shelf, among the rest of the discs.
Mega Evolution is back in Legends: Z-A
Pokémon Legends: Z-A revealed Mega Garchomp Z, and a campaign is running that hands out Mega Stones for the Pokémon that Mega Evolve in Z-A.
Mega Evolution began on the 3DS. X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the games that introduced it — and those four titles are in stock with us.
Generation ten is called Winds and Waves
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves were announced for 2027, launching worldwide simultaneously, and exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Switch 2 plays Switch games. What you buy today still works once generation ten is here — that saves buying it twice.

- No. We sell second-hand and collected Nintendo games; this year’s releases you buy from Nintendo. This page exists to show which older game belongs to which announcement — that one we do have, tested and photographed.
- Does a twenty-year-old cartridge still work?
- Yes. Every game shown here was started and played by us before it went online. On Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles the condition of the save battery is stated on the product page — it is the one part that runs out over the years.
