Why does shipping abroad cost this much?

Inside the Netherlands a single game fits through the letterbox — AED 18.18, tracking included. That service stops at the border. Anything leaving the country goes with PostNL as an international parcel, which is a different and considerably more expensive service. That is where the AED 148.57 comes from: the border itself is not what costs money, the cheap service simply ends there.

That amount covers the PostNL rate to your country plus the packaging: bubble mailer or box, an antistatic sleeve for the cartridge, and tape. We never drop the tracking — on a parcel that crosses a border, shipping without proof of delivery is a risk for both of us.

3DS cartridges (2011-2020) have anti-counterfeit security, but fakes exist. We go through these five steps. Every Nintendo 3DS game in our shop goes through this five-step check before it is sold.

Card with a tab + sharp label
A 3DS card has a small protruding tab on the right, so it does not fit in a DS, and a slightly matte, sharply printed label. Glossy or blurry print is suspicious.

Product code CTR-XXXX
On the back: CTR- prefix (the internal codename of the 3DS). CTR-P-ECRP = Omega Ruby EU. No CTR- prefix or a mismatch = fake.

"Nintendo 3DS" branding
The cartridge must say "Nintendo 3DS", NOT "Nintendo DS" or "Nintendo DSi". Fakes often get this wrong.

Start-up test on a 3DS
The cartridge appears as an icon in the 3DS Home menu. An original cartridge gives the cinematic intro. Fakes give "data corrupted" or open a strange launcher.

Region and save test
A European card starts on a European 3DS or 2DS — an American or Japanese one does not, so the region on the label has to match. Then: save, switch off, switch on again; the save must still be there.

Our experience

3DS cartridges can be recognised by the CTR product code and the tab on the side — that tab keeps them out of a DS. Since the eShop closed (March 2023), loose cartridges are the only way left to get 3DS games. We check cartridges with a start-up test, a region check and a save test.

Our tip

3DS cartridges only work on 3DS/2DS systems. NOT backwards compatible to DS systems (it does work the other way round: a 3DS plays DS games). The nicest screen is in the New 3DS XL and the New 2DS XL.

The Nintendo 3DS (2011) is the direct successor to the DS and adds a glasses-free 3D effect to the top screen. The platform is fully backwards compatible with all DS games, which means you can effectively play 3,000+ titles. The 3DS eShop closed in March 2023 — since then, physical cartridges are the only way to get new content.
