About this item

Good to know: this game has the notorious permanent save file — progress on the cartridge can NOT be erased (a deliberate choice by Capcom). So there may already be unlocks from a previous player on it; many buyers actually find that handy.

Shipping to Hong Kong

Small parcel (1-3 games), tracked: HK$307.40
Parcel (console / 4+ items), tracked: HK$465.71
Delivery time: 6-10 working days

We ship from the Netherlands: your parcel crosses the world, so it takes longer and costs more than a domestic delivery. Hong Kong is a free port: no import duty, no VAT or GST — the amount at checkout is the final amount.

On a Hong Kong console: Does not play on a Hong Kong (Japanese-region) Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS games are region-locked and this is the European (PAL) edition — for a European console or a region-free modded one only.

Hong Kong is a free port: no import duty and no VAT or GST on games, consoles or trading cards. The price at checkout is what you pay — nothing is added on delivery. You pay in Hong Kong dollars — Credit card or PayPal. The amount at checkout is what your card or PayPal is charged, at our fixed shop rate; your bank converts nothing.

Why does shipping abroad cost this much?

Inside the Netherlands a single game fits through the letterbox — HK$38.70, tracking included. That service stops at the border. Anything leaving the country goes with PostNL as an international parcel, which is a different and considerably more expensive service. That is where the HK$307.40 comes from: the border itself is not what costs money, the cheap service simply ends there.

That amount covers the PostNL rate to your country plus the packaging: bubble mailer or box, an antistatic sleeve for the cartridge, and tape. We never drop the tracking — on a parcel that crosses a border, shipping without proof of delivery is a risk for both of us.

Without you there would be nothing to grow. Every order that comes in here is the reason this shop can get bigger — and the reason I can keep doing this.

About this product

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for Nintendo 3DS — original Nintendo retro, personally checked.

Fast, score-focused action from the Resident Evil series.

With its original box — increasingly hard to find in this condition and a highlight in any collection. Cartridge cleaned and tested on original hardware, ready to play.

The Nintendo 3DS came out in 2011: autostereoscopic 3D screen, StreetPass, backwards compatible with DS games. On the original cartridge the game runs the way it was meant to — and keeps working for years to come.

Who is this for? Anyone who would rather play on a real Nintendo 3DS than in an emulator — collectors who want the original in their hands, and players who simply want that feeling back.

Does not play on a Hong Kong (Japanese-region) Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS games are region-locked and this is the European (PAL) edition — for a European console or a region-free modded one only. Every item passes our authenticity check (shell, board, Nintendo markings) and a function test — you're buying 100% original Nintendo.

Shipped from the Netherlands with PostNL tracking to Hong Kong: from HK$307.40 — a free port, nothing is added on delivery. 30-day returns.

Seen it cheaper elsewhere?

For most titles there’s also a private listing online, sometimes a few euros cheaper. The difference isn’t in the title, but in the copy itself and in everything around it.

Does it work?: Here: Has been running here — save and label checked — before it went online.; Private seller: ‘Works’ in the photo. You test it yourself, after buying.
Is it genuine?: Here: Label, product code on the back, colour and shape of the card, and booting. A reproduction doesn’t get through.; Private seller: Fakes are a plague with Pokémon and GBA games, and in a photo you can’t tell the difference.
If it disappoints?: Here: 30-day cooling-off period, and a 30-day warranty that it works.; Private seller: No right of withdrawal: consumer law doesn’t apply between private individuals. Buyer protection only covers the first 48 hours after delivery; after that you’re on your own.
Who’s behind it?: Here: One person, who has held this game personally and answers your question personally.; Private seller: Varies per listing.

Why you still remember this

Deep enough to keep your head still

The slider up for 3D, and then sitting dead still so it stayed sharp. StreetPass hats from strangers after a day in town, and an eShop that has since closed.

One copy, this copy. Since the eShop closed in March 2023, a physical cartridge is the only way left to get hold of it.

Will it work on my console?

Authenticity check

How we test Nintendo 3DS games for authenticity

3DS cartridges (2011-2020) have anti-counterfeit security, but fakes exist. We go through these five steps. Every Nintendo 3DS game in our shop goes through this five-step check before it is sold.

1
Card with a tab + sharp label
A 3DS card has a small protruding tab on the right, so it does not fit in a DS, and a slightly matte, sharply printed label. Glossy or blurry print is suspicious.
2
Product code CTR-XXXX
On the back: CTR- prefix (the internal codename of the 3DS). CTR-P-ECRP = Omega Ruby EU. No CTR- prefix or a mismatch = fake.
3
"Nintendo 3DS" branding
The cartridge must say "Nintendo 3DS", NOT "Nintendo DS" or "Nintendo DSi". Fakes often get this wrong.
4
Start-up test on a 3DS
The cartridge appears as an icon in the 3DS Home menu. An original cartridge gives the cinematic intro. Fakes give "data corrupted" or open a strange launcher.
5
Region and save test
A European card starts on a European 3DS or 2DS — an American or Japanese one does not, so the region on the label has to match. Then: save, switch off, switch on again; the save must still be there.

What we see with Nintendo 3DS games

Our experience

3DS cartridges can be recognised by the CTR product code and the tab on the side — that tab keeps them out of a DS. Since the eShop closed (March 2023), loose cartridges are the only way left to get 3DS games. We check cartridges with a start-up test, a region check and a save test.

Our tip

3DS cartridges only work on 3DS/2DS systems. NOT backwards compatible to DS systems (it does work the other way round: a 3DS plays DS games). The nicest screen is in the New 3DS XL and the New 2DS XL.

About this specific copy

About the Nintendo 3DS

The Nintendo 3DS (2011) is the direct successor to the DS and adds a glasses-free 3D effect to the top screen. The platform is fully backwards compatible with all DS games, which means you can effectively play 3,000+ titles. The 3DS eShop closed in March 2023 — since then, physical cartridges are the only way to get new content.

Fully backwards compatible with all Nintendo DS games.
The 3D effect can be switched off — it works in 2D for comfort during long sessions.
The eShop has been closed since March 2023. Physical 3DS cartridges get more expensive every year as supply dwindles.
Pokémon X/Y, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D are the most sought-after titles.

Our tip: 3DS cartridges are rarely counterfeited — the chip technology is too complex. So when buying, pay attention above all to the region (an American cartridge does not start on a European 3DS), the condition and the label quality; we check every copy anyway.
