Stap 1 — Key Stone: Je krijgt de Key Stone (gehecht aan je Mega Ring armband) van Korrina, de 3e gym leader, in Shalour City. Dit is verplicht in het verhaal — je kan het niet missen. Vanaf dat moment kun je in elke trainer-battle of wild encounter Mega Evolueren.
Stap 2 — Mega Stone: Elk Pokemon dat kan Mega Evolueren heeft zijn EIGEN Mega Stone (bv. Charizardite X voor Mega Charizard X). Deze stones vind je gedurende main game + post-game. Locaties varieren — sommige zijn gift van NPCs, sommige liggen op de vloer in dungeons, sommige zijn beloning voor side-quests. Pokemon moet de Mega Stone VASTHOUDEN (held item slot, 1 per Pokemon).
Stap 3 — In battle: Tijdens het Fight menu, druk op de Mega Evolution button (verschijnt als de Pokemon eligible is). Pokemon transformeert direct in zijn Mega Forme — hogere stats, soms andere type/ability. Mega blijft actief voor de hele battle (of tot KO).
Limiet: MAX 1 Mega Evolution per battle. Als je Mega-Pokemon wegvalt, krijg je niet een tweede Mega te activeren met andere Pokemon. Dit is strategisch belangrijk — kies welke Pokemon je het meest waardevol vindt om te boosten.

Pokemon X/Y is een must-play voor Mega Evolutie fans.Game Freak heeft Megas in Sword/Shield (2019) vervangen door Dynamax/Gigantamax — minder populair. Scarlet/Violet (2022) heeft Terastallization. Voor de Mega Evolution ervaring moet je terug naar 3DS-tijdperk.
X vs Y: Mega Charizard X (Fire/Dragon) is X-exclusief. Mega Charizard Y (Fire/Flying, Drought) is Y-exclusief. Mega Mewtwo X (Psychic/Fighting) is X-exclusief, Mega Mewtwo Y (Psychic, hoogste BST) is Y-exclusief. Kies versie op basis van welke Charizard/Mewtwo Mega je wilt — andere 24 Megas zijn cross-version.
Tip voor post-game: Pokemon X/Y heeft een Battle Mansion (Battle Tower equivalent) waar Mega Evolutie sterk is. Ook: Mewtwo te vangen in Pokemon Village dungeon op L70. Met zijn eigen Mega Stone uit Pokemon Tower (X = X stone, Y = Y stone). Voor verzamelaars: complete Megadex (28/28) is een mooie post-game doel.
