Pandemic-timing was perfect: miljoenen mensen thuis zochten escapisme. 47+ miljoen verkocht binnen 4 jaar — een van de bestverkochte games ooit op Nintendo hardware. Switch verkopen vlogen omhoog door scarcity en demand.
In 2022 ging Pokemon open-world met Legends Arceus (januari) en Scarlet/Violet (november). Niet zonder slag of stoot — S/V had bij launch ernstige performance-problemen die maanden patches kostten. Maar het concept van vrije exploratie + dynamische encounters bleef. Voor de Pokemon community een grote richtingsverandering na 25 jaar van vaste-route gameplay.
Mei 2023: Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. 22 miljoen verkocht in eerste 8 maanden — sneller dan BotW. Sky islands, Depths, Ultrahand crafting. Vaak genoemd als nieuwe game-of-the-decade kandidaat.
